Philadelphia’s housing is older than most of its neighbors. About 41 percent of its housing units were built before 1940 (Economy League), and rowhouses make up more than 60 percent of the housing stock. They are densely built of brick, with neighboring houses sharing party walls (WHYY, Building Stories: the rowhouse). Every home is different, but if you own an older row home these are reasonable questions to raise.
